Great Strides 65, 65 is a team endurance challenge with groups of four to six people undertaking a sponsored walk from Newlands Corner near Guildford to Shoreham by Sea along the Downs Link on on Saturday 18 May 2013.
The 65km (40.5 miles) course is a gentle route with no serious climbs. Your own support team will meet you at checkpoints to help you refuel and change clothes.
This event is being organised by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the UK's only national charity dedicated to all aspects of cystic fibrosis (CF). We fund research to improve the understanding and treatment of CF, review standards of cystic fibrosis care, and provide information and advice to the CF community.
Cystic fibrosis is one of the UK's most common life-limiting inherited diseases, affecting more than 9,000 people in the UK. Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes cystic fibrosis - around 1 in 25 of the population. When we started in 1964, the life expectancy for people with CF was just five years. Today more than half of the CF population in the UK will live past 41, and improved care and medicine means that a baby born now is expected to live even longer.
